Fly Swat Science

Why are flies so hard to swat? It took the world’s top fly researchers at Caltech to give us the answer. ScienCentral’s Sunita Reed reports on a finding that will give you pointers the next time you reach for your swatter.

One aspect that was completely overlooked is the fly’s calculating abilities. Goes to show that Mathematics is the language of the universe. Any evasive maneuver requires a calculation of time. If I am to dodge or block a punch, I will choose to either block or dodge in accordance to the time I have. If I have less time, I block. If I have more time, I dodge. Thus, there is an inherent calculation that must take place in the fly’s brain prior to engaging in an evasive maneuver. This coupled with the fact that whales count the months of the year and that ants perform vectors proves that Math isn’t a human construct. Math is the language by which the universe interprets itself.
